Re: Excluding an object from AO in max viewport?
If you are using AO from Mental Ray: You can set a G-Buffer ID to the excluding object in its Object Properties, and then in the Mental Ray AO settings, in the Incl/Excl Object ID slot (just below Falloff) put that same number as a negative. -

id say based off of the photo youve done a great job. id say maybe bring it into UDK for presentation instead of marmoset, but its just over personal preference. hell, try both and see what looks better. can we see the textures? -

Looking good, the newer sharper edges are spot on Id say I doubt there is much you can improve in modeling or on the clean look, Id go all in on texturing now, strong wear, drybrushing, unique details, humanization and all that stuff to push the next level ; ) -

materials are called materials in maya, it's only the editor that's different, you've got multilister and hypershade in place of max's material editor only thing i can think of that's similar to material id's is quick sets, as i only ever used material id's for selection purposes -

I gotsta try this! Does it mean you sort the pairs out by giving high and low (sub)objects matching material ID's ? So you can just keep everything clumped together, but correctly setting up ID's will leave you with no messy ray intersections? -
