Oh, right! I thought that you were going to subdivide it, my bad! I think that the budget on this weapon isn't going to be a major problem for anyone, 700/400 is a nice number for a simple sword like that.

Looking at ebay looks like they are going for around $300~400 in varying conditions. @emil, where did you try and sell yours? E-bay has them selling for like $800-1000 easy.
The detail and resolution of the print is what you pay for. I had projects where it was $400 for not even close to that resolution. This price is a steal. (Oh and Robot rocks my socks **thanks for all the hard work dude**)

Modo does not have smooth skinning so it's a no go for most character animation atm. However considering what they've already added to the 401 release I believe Modo will rock at character animation in the future.
