Pretty sure if say you are using Max 2014 or something and go back to the site to get 2016 or whatever version is new it gives you a new licence for the new software that's another 3 years.
What version of fbx are you exporting? Would try setting to 2014 or earlier to test. I've run into a similar issue as well, and had something to do with the latest version of fbx saving out wrong.

Dude, there's something called Perspective Match in 3ds Max. It's implemented in version 2014 and up. That'll help you match the entire scene, make sure you line it up entirely ... Hope this helps
