Nice wokr but there are obvious issues that hit me regarding the overall morphology of the hand: The thum is too short! The average thum should be able to reach half of the index finger when relaxed and nearly reach the tip when extended. -

I have found Viewport Canvas only useful for fixing texture seems, and not really much else. If you have Photoshop CS Extended you can try the 3D stuff there. Mudbox is probably you're best option. -

It's a texture being stretched along a path, so yes, quite similar to Illustrator's art brush, although that one uses vectors as its input. Would be easy to code if only PS' brushes-system was extendable, but sadly that's not the case :) -

I'm trying out krita right now, it feels pretty damn smooth and the seamless painting is just what i was looking for. I think the seamless stuff IS possible in some 3d modes in photoshop, but you need extended for that. -

Looks great at this point, @Tomsn! It might be better to extend the floor piece down to match the rocks around it. I'd even argue that there should be significant cracks in it if the floor rock were that thin though that's simply my opinion on the matter. -
