Well, tried my hand at some lowpoly stuff recently. I tried handpainting a texture on this guy, but not matter what I tried I didn't like the look of it, so I mapped the original crayon to it directly!
The contrast between tones is still too high. Try to blend it a bit more so that the transition flows over smoothly. As for a good way to improve, I would highly recommend the Tyson Murphy handpainting tutorial on 3dmotive.com
Yep, i still have lag, like painting handpainted textures of 2048x2048. But it's only with very fast strokes. With a pencil i draw a concept in some minutes, but with the wacom i can't make a fast linear stroke :(
And a paintsketch I did for the Handpainted Art Jam. Testing out my new photoshop plugin the "Magic Picker", practicing my color variation (tip from Faf @ link), and just wanting to do something fun.
Thanks ;) ! The eyelashes are seperated poly planes , but I am still struggling to find the best way to setup eyelashes for handpaint char like this. Hopefully I can come up with something new next update :D
Hey, thanks! :) I'll keep that in mind and keep working on it, I'm going to sculpt it in Mudbox or maybe try zbrush (haven't learnt it yet) and I'm gonna attempt to handpaint the texture soon, so more feedback will be welcome :)
@zachagreg ; And what about normal maps' colour values? =o Anyway, this is weed_03, Aconitus..... And yes, it's 100% modeled, sculpted and handpainted by me....just for the sake of learning, I know there are faster ways to craft this kind of props.... ^.^
You should show your handpainted texture, it's important. Love the shield, looks really good, you should create more objects in the same style :) Just keep going and add more stuff to your portfolio.
if you wanna get into handpainted texture i really suggest you to start with some tutorial that gives you the basics of the tecnique. I started with this one https://www.3dmotive.com/f101801 and i found it extremely valuable.
Nice work ! The render is really nice, love the handpainted style. Maybe add some orange/red near the flame ? At the moment the side of the stairs doesn't seem to benefit from the light source, but maybe it is just me :)
