Make sure the account you log in with is a member of administrator group. An account can have restricted privileges in all NT Windows versions (2k and XP are the only desktop versions) to prevent some people from screwing up a PC. Some people restrict their rights on purpose and don't log on as admin so viri cannot hit… -

in Epic's defence you only need the account to download the engine/source code or use the marketplace - you can work completely offline otherwise. This seems reasonable - they're giving you the engine in exchange for a little bit of data and you kinda need an account to use an online store. -

Yeah that's the fault of the image used, they're likely auto-cropped. I don't know how he's set up loading images in the portfolio but it should be easy enough to make the thumb (featured image) a pre-cropped image if the other ones are letter box.
