wow, lotsa really great work in here! kio: real nice hi poly work, your presentation is very clean and professional looking gcmp: nice sofa, altho 5246 triangles seems a bit expensive zerafian: that piece is looking ace! really nice painting being displayed
Virtuosic and Choco, nice work with the level art, looks great. Racer - nice dumpster, how many different texture sheets are you using for that (you said all 512s) i think the spec could use just a tad more contrast, specially in the paint vs rust areas.
The lighting is painted by hand to get color variation, but you could use baked AO as a base. The math is just PixelColor*(VertexColor*2) so 0 is black, 127 is unlit, and 255 is blown out brightness. The idea is to use it for handheld spec stuff and allow vertex colors to be used as vivid lighting.
Indian Boy: Its hard to see how exactly you would interface with this machine, even after your explanation with the bigger picture, the design needs something to help it read as a terminal i think. the texture is quite noisy and adds to the sense of confusion, especially the table part and floor. i think there might be too…
Demon Princess, This is really looking great. I take it you are going old School diffuse only style with this texture. I am really looking forward to a beautifully painted diffuse, with a few nice gooey bits, combined with attractive looking flesh speculars and material rendering. Great mesh and Great start.
sweeet work Nick! I really like the way youve rendered the 3D and then added so much paint work over the top, it looks so solid, didnt it take ages to do every view like that? I think Id have had a hard time just doing one view!
i wouldn't sweat it. miniature sculpts tend to have out of proportion heads (and sometimes hands) to exaggerate character. it's a great start! what scale is it in? 35mm? 55mm? or just something random? haha. i'll try to get pics up of one of my sculpts soon (if i remember to take photos before painting it..)
Well I finally had a chance to finish this up. It seems weekdays are very unproductive for me because of work. I was able to put a good 6 straight hours in and finished it up... This fella is painted on a 1024x1024 for everything but the feather which is on a 128x128 and the grass which was a 64x64 Let me know what ya…
looks nice rooster. As much as I like normal mapped stuff, I still think there is a lot more individualism in hand painted textures. Chunkey - are the biceps/upper arms too short? coming along though Rens - I like to see that loose style, her spine curve is looking good so far
Loomis is great for learning to draw, he makes a lot of good points and teaches very well. However the "character sheets" are not really that useful for modelling from, the proportions are a tad strange and the pose is pretty boring. The books are definitely good for learning to draw/paint/compose though. Just don't use…
