the only way to fix the problem is to draw more seriously, if you want to improve, and this might sound corny, but take a sketch book around with you and draw draw draw. once you're comfortable with drawing peoples faces it might be time to come back to your wacom, scan in a few sketches and mess about with them in… -

I don't have ZBrush :( As far as references go, I drew a side-view of the sword to start out with. I compared my concept drawing to the currently-added weapons for the Naga that made it through the workshop, and I felt like it nailed the style. -

thanks for your opinion poopipe. So far looks like centuries old technique painting it by hand by long flat sabel brush by very oily paint with random rotation, then using another puffy sable brush to subtly smear the paint tangential to original stroke makes a best illusion for height image. Did a quick test in Fibershop using the hand draw mode and roughly drew out a similar pattern as my hair cap above. Flow map looked pretty much the same, so I'm calling this a win unless some mathematician turns up and tells us it's all wrong :D -
