The same reason Paperman did it, to achieve an absolute traditionally hand drawn cartoon look. I don't see motion capture/ morph target animation doing that and that includes Ni No Kuni.
Wait! hold on.. All these vfx are made with Shuriken? o_o sick job man I expecially like the chain lighting effect! I always love cartoon vfx styles :D
I'm actually working on my Fantasy entry for the Substance Challenge. That tip will maybe save my Substance :) . I'm so happy you like that Cartoon material, really enjoyed doing it !
These are the references ive got for barret Should I gather photo references of say Mike tyson even tho the character will be more like a cartoon than realistic? Thanks for responding by the way :)
Awesome, I remember the battletoads game, this super-realism and quality reminds me of how they take 80's cartoons and do serious, gritty, realistic, cinematic remakes. Marvelous work.
Is this meant to be quite a cartoon-like environment, or is it meant to be realistic? I get a feeling from the cupboard thing, and the colours, and especially the clock and the sizing and scale, that it's meant to be a little bit fantasy-esque
I don't have the knowledge to critique Tom Hanks lol. But I think the default red wax matcap might be influencing his cartoon character so maybe experiment with presentation!
I like the general idea. Have you thought about using extremely sparse, but vivid color, as part of the art direction? Almost like a 40s cartoon meets Sin City?
Wow that looks great, I think you are the first person to make a gundam that doesn't look like a box, he actually has a natural pose and feels more like the cartoon.
could be sealab....there was an episode there they go out to fight a cartoon squid in one of those little minisub, and it sounds like stormy and quinn dialogue edit sealab 2021, to give the exact name.
