You can use unbevel script for the right one to properly collapsed it to its original volume, at least for max user or modo, but yeah generally I prefer the left one.
you could do this with an editor script for sure, but i'm not that familiar with setting that kind of thing up. I would be certainly interested aswell if someone had a ready made solution for this

Since loops are all the rage these days, I looped up an old animation I was working on about a year ago. Nice break from scripting and blend trees, hah.

You have NightshadeUV that has some tools to orient uv shell and straighten uv pretty fast and is up to date.. http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/script/nightshade-uv-editor
.xsi isn't in my list of export filetypes. Is there a plugin somewhere? I looked on script spot, and dis a quick search on google, but I didn't spend much time or effort on it.
To animate Groucho, I used motion puppet, Direct puppet, motion layer and then I got onto the facial animation layers and used create a script and layers of Avatar Controller.
The publisher demanded it and put it in the contract. The developer had to stick to the contract. It also included plugins and scripts. The publisher claimed it would create liabilities. Can't say much more than that.
