A few extra support loops should help a lot. If you're going to use an n-gon heavy subdivision workflow, it really helps to have frequent and even loops and avoid dense bevels. Here's a twitter page to look at for inspiration if that's how you want to approach…
Yes sorry, what I mean to say is *you can't use too many sides*, and if you use enough sides, you can get the appropriate sharpness. Not to say sides do not matter to the model.
@EarthQuake I didn't mean he should just rely on floating geo for all modeling details, I meant the he's approaching the detail wrong with the sharp angles that wont show up well in the bake
Rock Bottom: What software are you using? I would try to solve this with a modular approach modeling one section laid out flat and then deforming it into the shape of the handle. Adding in the unique variations at the very end.
Im trying to model that wooden part, but I wasnt able to create it without having still a nice and smooth rounded shape at the end. Especially the part where the barrel is, I cant get that 90° edge there.
