Really great looking materials, one critique on the brick tileable however. I notice one dark and one lighter brick stand out. I might try adjusting their values a little as it does make it rather obvious you are using a tile.
Can we see the separate asset for the bricks, on max or maya? My guess is smoothing groups, the front face of the brick is smoothing out with the sides, since it's a very low poly object you get weird gradients. See if this makes sense to you:
That is a huge project you guys are undertaking! I thought your blog was really interesting, I love that new brick work/cement texture you have going on the brick-walled slums. Looking forward to seeing the end result. Good luck!
Looking cool so far! One thing I will say is that you should scale down the size of some of the bricks even if the bricks are quite large comparing the size of the human size reference it is throwing off the sense of scale I am getting.
Don't have to do too much. I'd probably add antenna/s on the top and making the brick colour different. Hue/brightness variation. Id probably make the brick colour lighter. OR you could make all the other buildings darker.
I've always liked the look of handpainted textures but always thought I'd be bad at it. I made a quick brick texture for a low poly brick. I'll be posting hand paints as I go along in this thread. Thanks. Here we go: http://imgur.com/a/13aCC http://imgur.com/a/13aCC
Next up is Bricks. I've been trying to get a stylized look to the bricks. I'm still working on breaking the straight lines and also the normal map is kind of weird in some areas, so I've been updating it day by day. Definitely a challenge :)
Wow, I'm loving this thread. Really awesome piece! I really had to stretch to find a critique, but the spec on your brick is a little bright. They're very shiny bricks. Other than that I think your textures are gorgeous. Well done!
I like the subject, but the image looks a little flat, maybe the lighting or the shaders, or both. The bricks looked pretty good on your making off but on this image they look like a photo collage. Also some edges are too sharp (brick wall border)
Yes, and then applying a crop without delete leaves the pixels outside the texture boundary. I'm working on a 2048x2048 brick pattern, and when I bevel my bricks the ones on the edges get a seam through them. I wish there was just a tick box for this.
