However, 1.5 hour commute is awful and will grate on you over time. You said that was one way? So 3 hours a day commuting. That's bad. Also agree that if you can move closer, do so! Or maybe they'd let you work remotely a few days a week...
the older Xoliul Shader works in maya too 1.5 i think it is http://www.laurenscorijn.com/viewportshader you just need to enable the hlsl plugin first than load up the FX file. also lcUberShader_3.0 is a good cgfx shader for maya that supports gloss. http://blog.leocov.com/p/downloads.html
In that Handplane video on page 1, I understand that the UV layout for the left sphere causes the vertex count to double. The author states that the resulting tri count is 107 while the original was 96. However, I count 15 edges where the UVs lie. Shouldn't the resulting tri count be 111?

Planetside (1) was a huge influence for me that finally got me to start investigating 3d art (and at the same time Counter-Strike 1.5). Others that come to mind were Legend of Dragoon, FF8, FF10, Metal Gear series, etc. Then Gears of War came out and wrecked my life

Still plugging in speedpaints whenever I can. All except one were done in photoshop in less than 1.5 hours (average time probably about 45 minutes). Still no tablet, so it's all mousework. :) This one was done with a mouse in Sai. This last one was for the Concept Tag thread.
