It works now,but i needed to set the texture resolution to 256(in the hardware texturing attribute)but my original texture was 512.any idea how i can get it back to the original resolution ? if i set it to default,it look very pixelated.also,while the alpha maps shows up,it looks like the whole model is flipped inside… -

You can make them tiling diagonally - I used them a lot for low-res textures for Unreal Tournament , but can be scaled up. I guess I cheat a bit, using shapes, but it's quick and works - especially if you're lazy and want a quick effect via layer blending styles for edges etc. Most of mine end up @256^2 size anyway, so… -

your normals look cool, (maybe a bit high res, but I could see that being a 512 for one side thats mapped to all 6 sides of your box. might be best to see what you can do with a 256 on his guy however. as fot the wood, I`d work on the diffuse a bit. right now is very monochromatic, and and needs not only some value… -

Most of the game particle systems I've worked with go up to 256 but not really beyond that. Most try to stay in the 32-64px range, or they use procedural materials, but it depends on the particle type. As for the particle frame count, it really depends on the effect. 2048 tris backface culled, Screen is at 2x 256x192px, 512kb vram hardware limit. You might be better off just painting some lighting into your textures or baking it. I thought vertex colors was a standard and got exported from the 3d app. How does that really work? Can't you vary the stone texture a little more? Instead of using 512 x 512 for the stones make it a 256 x 1024 and have a small atlas… -
