Add more samples\rays? Click "..." near AO checkbox and add some Rays. try 64, then 128 and check if it helped.

and heres teh result in max, 1 or 2 slight normal mapping errors, but easily fixable in PS rendered with xoulils 1.5

If the camera isn't up close to the action you can try using morph targets. But at 1.5 km that would be a lot of morphs.
