I've worked in deferred rendering for many years as an artist, it's still expensive to do lots of decals, I was surprised to see the amount of mesh decals in Star Citizen and Doom. When we were working on Gears 5 deferred decals were a per pixel cost so the more you have on screen the higher the cost, perhaps SC/Doom…
Since epic is not using decal on fortnite, the decal shader is not the best it could be kekw. There is a thread about this problem here: https://polycount.com/discussion/202328/expanding-dbuffer-decals/p1 One work around would be to use 2 uv channels, but you would have to cut the ''decals'' into the mesh instead of having…
Today I created some decals for fallen leaves, these decals that can be used for road curbs, buildings or any other objects which could Leaves is, as the screenshots show the process of creating these decals First, I created a set of separate leaves Then I created a large group of leaves and dropped on the inclined plane…
Hello everyone - Does anybody know if there is a way to use decals strips which only contain normal information to smooth the edges of a mesh beneath it - so you would achieve the same results as face weighted normals without the mesh being chamfered but relying on the decal strips to provide the normal information for…
The way I've gotten a decal to work without flickering is to use a composite map slot (not a composite material type), and a secondary UV Chanel for the decal. Its a pain in the ass but works. These two tutorials cover it greater detail. I also think there is an official Autodesk promo video floating around, probably up on…
I covered a bit of it in the breakdown: https://80.lv/articles/building-florida-wilderness-in-unreal-4/ The graffiti is on a decal atlas. I've got the UVs parameterized so I can adjust them on an XY grid to match the size of each decal on the sheet. It's then just a matter of placing the decal in the editor. Any text with…
So basically you're asking if its better to have a decal sheet or to keep as many decals on the texture for that model as possible? I wouldn't know but was just clarifying the question.
Cool! And thanks, because you made me try the parallax with decal again. I tried it earlier, and it didn't work. Edit - On mesh decals, it still doesn't work.
@icegodofhungary I've read somewhere that decals are really performance expensive though. If everything is tiling textures then you probably have to use a lot of decals and vertex painting, right?
