Hey Pior, Actually, it's brush pen over blue pencil on white paper which I scan and then add the whites and paper texture in photoshop. I'm going to call this technique 'tradigital' :D. See you tomorrow, fella!

I think you should add some fallen leaves to the ground, no too much but it should help break up that tiling brick... or maybe some grass coming through, something to punch a bit of colour in there. I like the trees :)
quick jacket update here, can anybody tell me what the best way to add text would be? i want to put his name on the plate in front of the base there, but when i try making an alpha it distorts around the curve
And here is the 'cartoon' approach I did above, applied to my ingame mesh for my Evil Genius scene. I'm definitely going to be going this route for them. Bake this to a normal map then Add a tiling normal for some higher frequency bumpage.

You should make the handle like a kinda shaped piece of wood, please don't leave it like a straight cylinder, that doesn't show detail and if its a symmetrical piece, it will not look as interesting. But the Iron piece looks pretty good for how simple that stuff is. That handle will really make it pop if you can pull it…
Nice work, but yeah the presentation isn't working that well. Just maybe have him floating more sideways or add more floating props like tubes, tools or space rocks and debris to get a scene that he's in space. Keep up the good work!
