The problem is, im running a gtx 580 3gb. and as soon as i hit 10 000 polygons my whole system slows down. I mean really really really Slow down, i basically get 5 fps :S
My big obstacle was the hardware and the money. I needed to waste too much money to work decently... but well the time-frame was 1995-2007. Nowadays with just 600€ i can buy the PC i need. Being old sucks.
+1 for using a layer and then dialing it down. Typically I use a value like -.0001 and then apply it twice if it isn't enough. The default -.0007 is too much. Don't know why they don't improve the input here, tedious always typing that out.

A bunch of my friends and classmates did this in 2006/2007, they had good fun and learned a lot about game development (I went to Abertay but never did Dare myself), so it's definitely something worth participating in if you have the chance.
Thanks for the update on the platforms Vig. I would think that having some MMO Experience would help, but since it was so long ago (2007) that 3 1/2 years between now and then seems like an eternity in the video game industry.

You'll need Source SDK 2007 Base which is 10 meg, so no excuses based on how much of a pain in the arse re-downloading HL2 would be. It conveniently downloads automatically when you install the mod. Oh, and adding my support to the "you really should give this a shot" movement. It's about 2 hours of gameplay.
