Might help to think of it similar to traditional modular modeling. Model on a grid. Keep each piece separate, but make sure they tile together properly. Setup a unique camera per model, and make it as isometric as possible (no perspective), framed precisely to the edges of each tile. Use one lighting rig for all pieces, so…
Let's put it this way: I interviewed at a studio a few months back and we were talking about their rigging system... I asked if they were using Biped and he said no and practically danced a jig. Obviously you could use CAT or PuppetShop or a custom solution; it's not like Autodesk is holding a gun to your head. But I still…
It's looking cool, and the anatomy would fit right into a Guitar hero game. However if you are going to use this as a sculpting mesh, you might want to get rid of the triangles around your mesh. When they subdivide, they create three pronged posts which create nasty pinch points as you subdivide further. Also, it looks…
Why not read Maya's readme html files, spend some time over at creativecrash or go through some youtube tutorial, some are no more than 2 mins long if you want to learn Maya. Asking everyone about Maya and its UV module and not be willing to dig some dust off yourself is a nono IMO. Its like you want people to answer any…
Maya does it as a protection to not copy over files on the existing file you are pasting. But yeah, why the groups? I don't know... hard to say. It's just like as "separate", creates groups, plus nodes everywhere. I rather using "detach" from CreativeCrash.

(That's US pricing, UK is £7.47/15.88.) Here's all the student pricing they offer: https://creative.adobe.com/plans?plan=edu for US and…
Try checking out the rivet .mel script. I dont have a direct link since im on a tablet rite now, but i believe its on creativecrash. I use it on a daily basis for pretty much exactly what you need it for, its a life saver
Thanks, Bek! I don’t think the low
poly has a huge difference in scale (see picture above), but I
will definitely have to check out Cage baking. (I currently know nothing about
ray distance!) CreativeSheep: Thanks again for
checking out the geo! I used the transfer maps in Maya…
Where have you looked so far? Scriptspot? Maxplugins.de? Creativecrash? Google? I think Neil Blevins has a replace instance tool that factors in Groups, but I'm not sure. http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_tools/soulburnscripts/soulburnscripts.htm
