It's probably easy and I have forgot, when exporting a UV snapshot in Maya my UV shell (0-1) is not occupying the full image, regardless of size, instead it's small in the lower left hand corner of my image ?
@Hyp3rCub3 Remove the line that starts with "var h", and also the 4 lines directly below it (the 4th line is one character long, it's just "}" ). Those lines are responsible for resizing the canvas and moving the images to occupy the empty spaces.

Head and tail are likely mirrored as well, so the point is moot. Like Reza said, the wings occupy much more screen space than the head/tail and therefore would benefit most from a higher resolution.

Workin on the head for the female. Still very WIP on the hair and I haven't touched the neck yet. Going for 1k tricount for the whole thing including body and 256 for the texture again too. The head occupies 128x128 of that like with the male.

When it comes to UDK baking lightmaps, the UVs have to occupy their own unique space. Say if a metal bar casts a long shadow accross the pillar, the shadow would not be mirrored in real life. Change the lightmap UVs into unique space.
