Actually I thought I read that if you use the Composite material in 2009 only that inside that material you could specify layer type as in Photoshop IE multiply / screen / overlay ect. Mudbox is a stripped down, no frills version and very user friendly. In a few min you'll be sculpting your brains out. But once you get used to ZBrush especially V3 you'll love it.
