Ah... and I've totally spent a couple of hours in zBrush already. Ha. Okay, well, I'll finish this off and see if I can replicate it using Photoshop and a normal program later on.

These are rad! What do you mean by mixture of digital and traditional? I'm noticing some banding that looks like 3d printing artifacts...are you actually printing these or are you replicating that look?
Day 1 progress, started mainly going for the 3rd reference. The wood that Daniel made is just soo nice, really a challenge to try to replicate that, but I'm happy where I got with it
Another thing is the sharpness of your edges. Your high-res mesh has sharp, hard chamfers whereas the cube bake you're trying to replicate has rounded, soft bevels.
Art that's actually evocative of something, and inspiring, and interesting, instead of thoughtless mechanical replications. Concept art usually blows away the final product in tone/style/communication, technical limits aside.

Thanks for the info and help, I will try to freestyle it. When working from concept is it expected of you to replicated it 100% in form and measurements, or to just capture the overall aesthetic and intent of the original concept art?
