ericdigital - it sounds like it might have been the result of the airplane accident he was in. Plane blew a tire on landing and Billy smacked his head on the roof of the cabin. He probably was fine, but started getting brain swelling. Went to bed, never work up. :( -

Thanks for the input guys, EricChadwick's suggestion did the trick. The problem for me involved some simple shaped geometry with a lot of subdivs in it. Which seems to make 3DSMax's relax UV tool useless. So if I remapped some of those chunks I'd lose a lot of time unwrapping them manually from planar. That reset W to 0… -

Re: Lighting low poly characters for render?
What software? No lighting is the way to go for really low-poly characters. You should also paint in some ambient-occlusion-like lighting on your color map, and some specular bits painted in for shiny things like metal.
