How's it look in engine? Never had a whole lot of luck getting normal mapped models to display properly in Max or Blender, but never really had much need to. -

Hi, this pose is probably going to be ok as long as he is not extending his wings. If you want him to be able to extend his wings to the point that his "wing elbow" articulations are straight, having them bent at 90° by default might be a problem. Re: HumanIK A-Pose vs T-Pose?
Human IK requires a T-Pose, it would also make standard rigging a bit easier. However, you should use the A-pose for skinning the character.
