Some good info in this thread already! I created a quick page on the wiki http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/3d_printing If anyone feels like adding some of the resources from this thread (or other resources) to it, that would be awesome. Having it on a wiki page is a bit more permanent and accessible than a single thread imo? -

I use substance everyday now, and can make all the things all the programs you mentionned do ( and I own nDo2 and dDo ), but its more flexible in substance. There is no limit :) It's the perfect tool for texturing. Still have to do some links with photoshop for some steps but I hope they will soon enough add some layers… -

Here's my process: Silo (2 beta): -block out the organic forms, add cuts to define the shape. -sculpt out the form. -sub-d model the mechanical parts. -Retop over the hipoly stuff, pull faces from the hipoly mesh's base to speed up the process. An interesting note when I saved the file as a 24bit: I copied the unmodified normal texture to my desktop so I could save the copy as 24bit. Some obj problems in Max 2009 are still the same, the scale problem is still present (always tweaking with numbers), and ngons seems not to work too when exporting. I love everything about this thread. I had a blast painting a texture for a change and found that doing non-character work was pretty fun too.
