The signs are looking really nice. My only question is concerning the font on the Mage's Guild sign, keep in mind that san-serif fonts weren't developed until the 1920s.
The original Freedom Force by Irrational had some excellently cheesey 1960's era comic-style dialogue, and appropriately over-the-top voice acting to go with it. "For FREEDOM!!!"

I'm also having trouble with Windows 8 (x64) and Marmoset 1.07. The process is sitting in task manager, but fails to load. That said, Version 1.03 works correctly with little to no hassle. ATI 6950 // Windows 8 X64
AA is very demanding id suggest reducing it too see if its part of the problem. At 1680*1050, 4x should be enough. If your running max 2010 you can enable AA from the app itself.
brightness and contrast ratios are just inflated numbers that don't mean much for the actual quality of the display. I'd look at Dell's U2312HM or U2212HM. Also 1920 x 1200 would suck at 27in for being a computer monitor.
