Once I thought I'd try my hand and dabble in a few disciplines, my former tutor told me (with a class for an audience) why be a 'jack of trades' and be good at many than concentrate and hone your skills to be excellent at one... Of course there are genius modelers out there that can do character and environ, but not that…
Finally I can continue this project. Uh...I do not really wanna think about the fact that I started a year ago. I've already put many many hours in this one and I jumped back and forth between design and themes (you can see this if you read the previous posts). But as you can see this is also part of the learning…
Sorry for the long post in advance, this is a very interesting topic i hope for whoever reads it won't be a waste of time. If you do please tell me what you think. imo Good leads don't just let you learn a lot, they show, inspire or even push you to learn a lot or they might choose to let you loose if they see raw…

So i found some good tuts for water creation and redid mine, but something weird is going on. If i take a screenshot using the console command "tiledshot" the reflections in the water aren't visible. If i straight up do a printscreen, they are. see the screens below. I also doubled the spotlight brightness for the…
alexk: Yep, I have a bit of red-tinted post processing on that scene. You're right about the robot, not really sure why I threw that in there. Good call on more environment content as well. I might be able to put together a mini-scene of assets from the City of the Ancients environment. I guess I wanted a bit of variety…
I recently proposed my capstone project idea to the class for my graduating demo reel. I quickly blocked out my idea for an environment scene that will showcase prop modelling as well as a static mesh of a beast within it, which will all be displayed in UDK. The overall composition here is more or less what I've got in…
I agree with pliang. It looks like you just ran a crazybump or nvidia normal pass on the diffuse. When-ever you are using a 2d photo to generate normals it ALWAYS has to be preped first. Check this out: http://www.game-artist.net/forums/support/6126-mini-tutorial-normal-maps-how-not-do-them.html Good luck.
Hey guys, I'm at work so I can't post any progress pics (but I can surf the web? WTF?!). Thanks for the useful feedback. The main thing is that I'm putting it in Object Space normals in the end, so I'm giving it totally unique UV coordinates. I know, it's probably super ghetto to work on it in TS normals for so long when I…
I really do appreciate the direct feedback from everyone. There’s a lot in here that’s useful, even if some of it is coming in a bit hot. A few clarifications and a couple things I clearly need to improve. This is a not-for-profit endeavor that started out as a discussion with other design professionals and when I found…
