If the lic on the laptop is a retail version you can upgrade. They have a "can I upgrade windows on this PC" tool you download which will tell you if its a version that can be upgraded, even checks the hardware. If its OEM on the laptop, it probably can not be upgraded. But MS does make some exceptions for hardware bought… -
