Have to agree with Daz, b/c I too am guilty of not working on the larger forms/lowed divisions enough pretty often. Nails should be protuding a bit more, face prolly needs more asymmetry/natural features. maxscript: is there an elegant way to identify the edges bordering a face selection in editable mesh
In an editable mesh, each face appears to have a unique set of edges. This is a pain in the back bottom if you want to do something like collect a list of all the edges that border a face selection. In an editable poly you can store your face selection in A, invert it and store that in B , convert both A and B to edge… -

I think one thing that can help your paper not bend is to use a larger range of pencils. See how you like using B pencils. When I sketch I use a mix of H and B pencils. B is softer so you get get darker lines without pressing as hard. As for paper I just use normal sketch paper, but in college what we would do at times is… -
