Also displacement occurs typically along normals defined by vertex normals. So any object that has split /hard edge / sharp corners / normals would typically make a split in displaced surface . Few renderers can fix it automatically to certain extent but not Octane probably . Also typically displacement is working together… -

Hmmmm i'm not too sure about the waterwheel. Usually those are placed in rivers so that the waterforce causes the "turbine" to spin round. You need to adjust the initial rotation of the brush alpha as well, in the brush’s general settings. There’s a preview there, of the stroke, that should make adjusting the setting easy.
