With your criteria you could do a lot of different things. Bridge, engine room, cargo bay, crew quarters, bar, etc. You can even include a little bit of hallway to frame things if needed.
That's pretty much exactly how it's done. The fur is shader-driven and includes a bunch of parameters for spacing shells, painting fur direction, and adjusting opacity/density. I was actually looking at the shader with one of my coworkers on Wednesday.
Looking cool! I'd say add breakdowns and workflows. I'm not sure if your work is PBR, or what your wireframes look like, or what your UV mapping looks like. Include these in all your projects.
You could also take foundational fine art classes, including an intro to design, to begin getting better at designing. Or doing master studies of existing paintings, observational sketching of objects or scenes around you, etc.
Really great breakdown! It's great that you included visuals for every step of the way, it really helped showcase your workflow. I'll be sure to keep a lot of your points in mind for the future, thanks so much for this post!

There is no reason for the water to darken in that area other than that the wall is visible through the water. If your not making transparent water than why dont you include the darkening in the texture. Out if interest what engine are you using
Another WIP shot, including a rough concept. I decided I go with the normal height one. My girlfriend persuaded me. She loves the postmen in Wind Waker, and this character reminded her of them. :P
Q: Can a set includes multiple primary weapons (no helmet) ? A: A set must be comprised of one helmet and one weapon. If you are creating multiple weapons, they must either be paired with a single helmet, or submitted as a solo item
Ok, I think this could be it (not including some Photoshop post on the static images). Hit me with your best shots, I'm going to start UDK importing today. Which is going to be an awesome happy fun time!
