Rather than trying to replicate the spline trick in Maya, make use of one of its own features. Paint Effects should get you some nice 2d flats with perfect alpha built-in, so experiment with that. Matroskin, great post. Vig, watch out! Someone's gunning for your "elaborate tutorial with illustrations" crown. -

I've been polishing up some stuff and also added collectibles, diamonds and crowns that are gonna be placed in harder to reach places on the levels. Also made a lot of tweaks to the controls. I realized that I had to make them a bit nicer, especially when jumping since the fps view makes it hard to time jumps. -

Hey guys thought I would post a quick update before work... "want to buy more time" to work on this thing :( added some detail to the helm (i wanted it to be a twisted metal crown like thing, but this reminds me more of ivory) and also shaped and added detail to the feet (think the back claws are off a bit :( ) -

Nice! Feels better, don't it? :) I need to get a few more pulled, crowned or facial filled. After experiencing my first extraction awake (UGH) I always get knocked out now. Lovely sensation, and it's nice waking up from a good nap ;) I usually get vicodin as well :D -

shes beautiful but looks like a white girl playing as an egyptian. doesn't matter i suppose but you asked for a critique so that's my offering. design wise there is no way that crown stays on without a beefy chinstrap but again, who cares really. it looks cool so that's all that matters I suppose. -

got the rest of it into marmoset w/ normal and a quick grayscale diffuse. Will do a proper texture pass next, add the arm goo.. I want the arms sorta ghostly, coming out of this sticky demon goo so that's the plan.. and tattoo's!. Oh and the light crown... and then lighting rendering and one in the bag! :D -

It could be the colour, perhaps it could be the snakes aren't menacing enough to give an evil look! The reason why I'm not a fan of V1 is the making of the limbs is very difficult for the poly budget and the crown lacks solidity. I'll try out a darker scheme to this whether that's the factor for it, thanks a lot for the… -

You would be "dead" wrong. I guarantee if I die tommorow my funeral will look and sound exactly like that. Actually, thats my experience with every Korean involved funeral I have ever been to. Pounding of the chest.. wrenching hands upwards damning the heavens.. passing out is the worst. Or having to catch your relatives… -

Practise your speech with a live audience, just a few people will do. Practice at LEAST twice. This helps you identify wording problems, improve overal flow of the speach/speech and it will set the whole thing in your mind. Practising in front of a mirror will help you memorise the speech...doing it in front of a live… -

Nice work! my only crit is that there's a lot of crisp edges in the detailing, like the rings under the crown. They look a bit wider/rounder in the original. Seconding what Snader said about thickening things up. Since you're using planes for the lowpoly, a bit more of an exaggerated bevel to get a good read.
