Well, I went from Maya -> Max -> Modo. The way I came to grips with Modo was to just change all the hotkeys to the way I liked them, that seemed to make a big difference. Now I'm using more pie menus than tool specific hotkeys and it seems to make my workflow a lot more flexible. The only things I miss from Max are the…
Object Orientation is SORT of what your looking for. its the object's Z axis, not the worlds. So it will always be in respect to the object's local up. Which has its uses, but if you're looking to make some sort of deposition shader it might not do what you want. IE if you turn your rock upside down the snow will stay on…
yeah the tires look more like a car tire. The valve stems look huge compared to the ones on my bike (unless that's a bmx thing?) The pedals seem awfully square an uninteresting, aren't those typically given some neat teeth and shapes for better grip? I don't do the whole BMX thing but don't they typically do front/rear…
If you are using max there are very easy ways to get around that. Either make it with more geometry to begin with; or you can do what i do; if you are trying to maintain a curve using more geo make a spline in the axis that you want it to be maintained. Most of the time I use the n-gon to make sure the verts will match up.…
The ears look massive and the detail within them looks wrong. The 'V' shape underneath the neck (and meets top of the chest) is far too deep for any base mesh. You've modelled that like the rest of the chest is a bonafied body builder. The 3rd row down of polies on the forehead should better define the shape, right now…
Oh I didnt mean to imply the interface hasnt improved, its improved greatly over the past few months its really impressive but for people who are new to the app and have never seen it before there will probably be a few things to get used to. For some examples the voxel sculpting is all done from a flat panel of buttons(no…
Aye, most of the time UV Tool and Relax does everything I could ask for. UV Peeler's really useful for winding pipes, though (although always choose the edge loop with the most even spacing along it because that's the reference it uses for spacing out the loops that go lengthways). A really neat trick (and another reason I…
eld - Yeah there are randomly generated ground and space missions that use our Genesis system. As an artist, I don't know a whole lot about the design of that system, but I would assume that the handcrafted missions are probably much more interesting. And true, our game is much closer to WoW style combat than Eve style.…
If they tweak anything in Hammer, the first thing should be the displacement mapping tools push/pull system. Selecting the axis from a drop down menu and having the viewport locked is an insane way to work and not needed at all. The lack of light maps for props and static meshes is pretty lame, especially for TF2 which can…
Fixed the quote for you! I set my auto backup to every 2 mins, and I am very glad I did. Autobak has saved me so many hours of potentially lost work, it really is the best counter measure for all the shit that causes max to crash so often. By the way, a surefire way to cause a undo crash in max for me is to select a bunch…
