windows 7 64 bit runs like a workhorse on my laptop with Max, photoshop, Unreal, Adobe Bridge, firefox, etc all running at the same time. Gets a thumbs up from me! compared to XP I think it runs a little faster.
+1 i've played all and my vote has to go to uncharted2 still. The amount of detail, texture resolution, unique models/textures is just mind blowing. I cant imagine how they made so much shit for that game. The visuals are just unreal...
haha thanks for that james...naa no game engines just making stuff for max, once I get abit more used to the certain techneques then il lse eif i can work an unreal mod or soemthing . was just curious. thanks anyway john
Yeah this suit is quite baggy and isn't usually inflated. This low poly took a lot longer than planned, but for a second attempt it turned out quite nicely. Need to test deformation next when I rig it to the Unreal rig. Wish me luck!
I just noticed too, it looks like certain parts of my model has the normals flipped... The legs and head are flipped from the body, possibly other clusters too... I don't get it! why am I only getting this issue in unreal?
heres how i usually do this: place a copy of the straight part at thesame location on the grid as you did in unreal, then align your curve to that by moving the bend modifier gizmo until it aligns. Then snap the vertexes to the straight copy so there will be no small gaps. voila!
I just saw that the Unreal engine is now FREE (!!!) for small projects that generate less than 5k in revenue. Certainly makes it seem like a better investment of time to learn the engine for portfolio purposes in the short term, if it could be used for an actual indie game.
I don't have those options though there's something similar in the mobile area. I believe Unreal might use some kind of "flattening" for lightmass, as it can't exactly run the shaders on the CPU (though it might CPU interpret the node tree I guess)
i think tris wise, most stuff for cryengine 3 is about 20k tris with attatchments. think source uses around 10k(?) unreal 3 is about 15k or something off the top of my head. but its looking good for 7.5k, keep it up!
Just in case someone stumbles upon this thread, its nice to have a solution. In your start menu, under Programs > Applications > Unreal Development Kit, you will find a "UDK Editor" shortcut. I believe that's where it is, I'm not on my main PC at the moment.
