you could make some brushes that you can use to make branch clumps. imo it will just take practice and time to get your stuff looking the way you would like.
Aikido is good practice for unbalancing an attacker - using their strength/speed/force against them. Of course living in the UK we don't have to worry too much about trying to dodge a bullet.

Learned a better way of gesture sketching, so I am applying it. Drawn traditionally in pencil then outlined in pen. Sketched this to practice, narrative work. Got the idea from an old, Illustration Friday theme.
