It was time to sign in for another class at CGMA. I did the Environment Art in Unreal Engine with Peyton Varney. Below you can find the outcome of those 10 weeks. More pictures and breakdown on my artstation: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/9mdNvL
The simplest way to generate an accurate a curvature map is through genererating it from a tangent space normal map. And that does require uvs. Just saying. I've checked out a lot of ways to do this when I was making a material function for unreal for this.
How thick is the collision mesh? I've had this problem for meshes that were considerably thin. Try making the collision mesh thicker. Otherwise, the model will say it has a collision mesh, but no primitives are detected because they don't meet Unreal's minimum threshold.
This one definitely would take my vote. Great job! I was wondering what engine you used and it's good to know something other than Unreal being used to spice it up a bit. Love how the buildings came out.
I agree. With the Unreal Development Kit, you can import all new, fresh geometry and quickly make a working walk through of your environment. Some simple Kismet tutorials and you can have something up and running in no time.
First of all you have my respects for using Basil Poledouris's music ( R.I.P maestro). Great sense of scale indeed and nice lighting. My first attempt using unreal was getting a rock inside the engine with textures.... : /. Good luck!
A vector based 2d Shape creation tool for photoshop in the manner of 3d tools, like edge extend, vertices, champher and so on.Like 2d shape editor in older unreal engines but more advanced.Marquee selections sometimes giving me aches.
Looks like a pretty soild start man. Is this in the unreal 3 engine? Would be cool to see a top overview of the map so we could get a better idea of the size. Keep up the good work looking forward to future updates.
Having been a level designer, I would suggest taking a game you like with an editor, and setting up a few maps with innovative gameplay. Half-Life 2 or unreal you can easily make good designed levels easily.
ShadowM8: You can find good examples of the Unreal 3 environment objects (in-game screengrabs) here: http://www.unrealtechnology.com/html/technology/ue30.shtml I don't think they have many (if any) wireframe shots of environment models there, though...
