Only problem with this is it will darken any wide bevels you have, which isn't exactly what you want. A faster way is to just copy the blue channel and do an Auto Levels on it, then gaussian blur it by about 0.5 or something. Less effort than doing the fade/multiply thing a few times. If you're using xNormal to bake out these normals, it's going to have a hissy fit about those duplicated meshes and stacked UVs. I'd suggest a different approach, by first deleting anything that's duplicate so you only have one copy of each unique mesh. Then, bake out your normals using only the unique pieces, and then… -

Should i really leave space between the 90 degree angled faces on the UV map, it makes things harder to texture properly. I guess i have too since the normal map will bleed a bit i think, or… -

Here is another problem , I loaded the decimated model in order to be able to create the cage, then I used the actual HP model to create the baking etc ... This is how looks the cage on left, wich seems fine to me , but for some reason the normal map come out messed and cutted ... why? I also kept for 3 minutes ray… -

Alright, a few things. How are you importing and exporting from UV layout and Maya? Are your UVs mirrored on your mesh overlapping or are they offset in UV space? Not bad. The result looks very impressive, but when you have to pay $50 for a single user license, I think I'll stick with xNormal, which is free and also has a powerful 3d viewer and normal-map renderer. The AO result may not be as good, but hey, it's free - and the programmer who's working on it is forever improving…
