As always it depends on if it was in game and where it would be in the players view. If it was a hub or something very close that the player would interact with then 1024 or 2048. If it i off screen and the player wont see it very much then 512 or so. If this is a portfolio piece then I would build the texture out at 2048… -

just started on the texture, also got the mesh down to 504 tris. Working with a 1024x1024 map but I think it will be a 512x512 when it's done. -

That really doesn't look like it deserves a 1024x1024 texture. You could get that much detail out of a 256... because there is no detail there. Also, the texture is looking pretty dodge/burny - like all the shading is just a whiter or blacker version of the base colour - this is not natural, except in very specific… -

Wait, you said 4k map for the whole thing, and you don't have enough room for facial detail!? Is this a film-resolution model or something? I've seen great-looking "next-gen" game character face textures taking up a 512x512 before... you can fit 64 (that's right, sixty-four) 512x512s into a 4k map...
