If you have access to zbrush:https://polycount.com/discussion/168610/3ds-max-zbrush-proboolean-dynamesh-hardsurface-workflow-tutorial/p1 For these kind of questions you can best post in: https://polycount.com/categories/technical-talk
Thanks much Popol!! I haven't tried using Shadowbox yet, gotta learn it soon :) I was doing hardsurface import from Maya so far, so the armors don't match the body so well.
google "hardsurface modelling tutorial" returned this http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/3d_studio_max/hard_surface_essentials/hard_surface_01.php and you also have this right here on polycount tech talk, http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56014
What I have asked myself for quite some time now, would something like realtime sub-d hardsurface stuff with control loops work or does that conflict with the recalculate normals stuff mentioned earlier?
I consider a hardsurface modeler/texturer to be basically the same as a Prop Artist. If I was looking for one I would evaluate using all the same criteria as Environment Artist, except for the bits about constructing a whole scene.
Techno skull.. one face in progress for a ut3 pack, remaking/updating "The Corrupt". This one is headed for the MSU contest once the rest of it is done. Re-learning hardsurface sub-d workflow. So far so good.
I mean, the nature of your approach should allow this to work on many hardsurface models out of the box, but fair enough, it's not the focus right now. I did find this. http://peterwonka.net/Publications/pdfs/2014.TOG.Chihan.QuadExploration.final.pdf
Since it seems that a lot of the body is covered in hardsurface..maybe you want to have a look at modelling/sculpting the cloth as opposed to using Marvelous? I would be a great learning point as well, especially since this is a personal piece(?)
Awesome hardsurface modeling man. I agree with some of the other comments, you should really add more detail on the head...or more so under the head. Other then that you should be proud, this is top notch stuff.
Konras, looks like pretty cool hardsurface work to me, I like everything except the hands, they just look a little bit too much like an 80s tv program robot would have hehe
