you might want to try and use a bunch of small textures. a brick, window, trim etc... that tile of course. I'd say nothing larger than 512x512, prolly could get away with 256 or 128 for some stuff. be easier to give pointers if you had an example of the style of building your going for too.
Thanks for the replies guys! We use targa's, not jpeg's, bmp's or dds's. So with the statue I'm working on, I'm working on a 512x512, and I've got the whole thing in a stone texture - detailing the UVd areas where needed of course. Would it be fine just leaving it all stone or filling in the unused areas with a common…
Might be the XForm. That fixes a lot of random things. I'll give it a shot on mine, and see if the problem goes away! This is what it's generating at the moment, after resetting XForms on both low and high mesh... it's doing the same thing exactly 180 degrees round the wheel, on the other side. Weird... So far I have…
Yeah the stoner ref isn't a good idea my friend. Even if that isn't what you meant it can be viewed that way. I would not involve politics, drugs or the such when making stuff for your portfolio. Anyways a friend of mine that I go to school with made something close to this. Check it out at…
Here is another project I am working on, the Han Solo blaster. It was the final project for one of my classes, but I would like to continue tweaking it. Here is a link to the reference images I used for the gun (it is the one on the bottom of each set). I am finished with the high poly, though I still need to tweak the low…
I'm not sure what kind of lighting/shadow set up you're using but the shadows are really sharp. Sharp shadows are a hallmark of fake 3D and are almost never found in the real world, alien or otherwise. For 90% of all shadows try to get a nice soft blurred edge. I'm not really sure what app you're using, maybe you said and…
Thanks guys! I had a lot of fun with him. I wanted to make him look painterly so I didnt use many overlays and in the areas that I did, I typically ended up painting or smudging it back out. Now to answer a few questions: Rollin: When I think about WoW I think about exaggerated shapes. I had his buckle much smaller at one…
well i dont exactly agree with that .. i think it's a natural evolution of mobile technology .. i do think that many of the features are in fact completely useless .. however things like bluetooth and camera are pretty useful things to have around .. you cant exactly carry around your digital camera every time you go out…
The model isn't outdated if you ask me. Think of all the smaller platforms like psp, ds, and so on.. and rts games, this model would blend right in there and if you need to practice texturing I'd recommend one like this. Perhaps try and keep the texture size on a reasonable scale like 512x512, then you'll be working with…
not too shabby for a first start. 1) Gotta work on blending the lips in. They are very duck bill-ish and obviously extruded as a way to make the detail, which is fine if they blend properly into the surrounding flesh. It will probably help to read up on the muscles of the face and really dig into the underlying anatomy. I…
