I think it really comes down to the kind of environment you want to work in ultimately. As a first job sure it does pay to follow the piper if you know what a studio wants and more importantly it knows it too. As an artist you should just keep going forward with your development and create a brand for yourself. A good…
I still find it difficult to understand how an artists reasoning behind a rejection email which goes "We found someone who is a better fit for our current needs. We are constantly hiring, thank you for your continued interest and please apply again" leads to "portfolio is not good enough," And after much the same mail…
Hey, no problem. It was one of the more pressing aspects of your folio imho, now its easier to focus on the nitty gritty. =) Your stuff feels like it isn't quite there and it's like... distressingly a little hard to pinpoint exactly why that is. On the plus side, that means you're really close! On the minus, that means its…
Hair studies would be good to do. I dont draw hair pretty good aswell XD. Great study my friend. Here's mine today. I started a new girl was to lazy to go back on the last one. I also couldnt resist to play around with the polypaint tool and the lighting. Here's my sculp for today.
Try and avoid copying/studying from photos unless it's your only option. If you're going to study anatomy and the human form, then take up life drawing classes and draw from real life rather than just a static 2D image. You'll get more out of it and it will help understand depth, perspective and forms a whole lot more.
Took a long break from 3D lately, trying to stick to basics, started studying a bit of anatomy/sketching on my free time at work. Decided to make a head and then started a torso, planning to make more body parts as my study progress. Just trying to get the shape/proportions right, muscles are not defined yet.…
Oh man, I so wish we had that college system here too. Deciding what profession to study is very hard to decide when you're fresh out of high school for most people. This shouldn't mean I advise you to get a game related degree. My only advice is not to study anything you don't enjoy.
Textures are really flat atm, but you're making good progress. Study texture sheets of metal textures from some of the pros around here for ideas about how to add material definition. It's a big subject and takes time getting used to so don't get impatient. Study and work this texture thoroughly, then move on to your next…
The trees take me about 1-2 hours each to finish. Each tree has a different concept, but tie to the theme of "Magic" The Master Study are 2-3 hours long. Speed paint are usually around 30 minutes to 60 minutes. Franz Xaver Winterhalter Texture Study Volcanic Paradise, Speed Paint, 1 hour
Great to see your study here! For the Rock/Cliff study, I think it will be great to include some rim light in the dark area. Right now the shadow side looks too dull and flat. Adding a secondary light will make it richer and more dynamic to look at. :) The male figure line drawing is looking great, keep up the good work.
