Hello ! I am looking for freelance/outsourcing work, I have a very good grasp of modelling and texturing for hardsurface assets, both for next-gen PBR workflows or mobile. I might also be interested to relocate if the right opportunity arises. Portfolio: www.robertdeleanu.com Contact: justgountil [at] gmail.com
I am in love with the quality of the environment art in the game. God damn all the assets and textures look lovely! You can tell a lot of love and a lot of high poly love went on this thing, big props to the art dept and to all the outsourcing people that worked on this!
again there's lots of boards out there with people looking for artists if your willing to step out of your comfort zone. For me Ive gotten 90% of my freelance work through Craigslist. Am currently looking into working with more stable clients eg. outsource houses.
30 grand unfortunately is a lot of money. But to purchase all the software is super expensive. Plus this includes all the outsourcing we've done (audio, video, and illustrations). I wish getting this game out would be cheaper hahah then we could get this done a lot easier.
Have a read through this article by Jon Jones. He pretty much nails it and being an outsource manager he is the type of guy who will be looking at your site for freelancing. There is also a CrunchCast or 2 that go over in detail some pretty awesome advice on websites/folios.
yup they both have correlations at other companies - I've seen the terrain sculpting/painting position get called "World Builder". I've done both and I'd choose the world builder position, there's a lot more artistry to sculpting a terrain than fixing outsourced art.
It's actually a range. Look at the asterisk below it. These numbers are taken from one source, someone who was outsourcing a lot, but still you should take it all with a bit of skepticism. The rates are actually all over the place. There are no standards. This table does not represent experience level, for example.
Yep, I will just second and third what is being said here. If you are aming for a game industry environment art position, I would remove anything that is not environment from your main portfolio. That said, some smaller outsourcing companies want generalist modelers.
For an alternate take, I've been working professionally for over 3 years across a few studios and have only ever worked remote. I recommend outsource studios as a way to get a start in the industry, especially if your country doesn't have much of an industry of its own.
