The "set planted", "set sliding", and "set free" buttons are really just presets to change the ik information in the rollout. This is really pretty basic biped functionality that is covered very well in the help file. Have you tried reading that?
Actually that's what the "$" is. It stands for the selected object. So "$.material" gives you the selected object's material, "$.pos" is the selected object's position, and so on. Now you'll be able to sleep easy tonight knowing there really is a selected object function.
I'd also study Johnny's artillery model, (Search Function) the frequency and the surface details on his would be something to consider if you really want to take it to town. Some decent level of grime on the wheels would be good too.

Here is my initial blockout progress, couldnt help but to focus on functionality after several adjustments I am going for rotatable radar eye socket. Happy with what I have with the main sphere gonna focus on mid and legs section next.
What you can do is switch your renderer to DX9, SceneCaptureCubeMap will function right, then right click on your TextureRenderTargetCube and select 'Create New Static Texture'. Then switch back into DX11 - given its not realtime reflections, but this might work for your purposes.
My only complaints are with Wacom drivers in general, but they're always buggy for awhile when a new product ships. It functions so no real complaints. Yes, the stand lets me work really close and can easily be tilted to suit my needs.
haha, cheers guys : ] Yeah, i also love that low-tech look, lots of crap everywhere and really worn surfaces, but still feels like they have a function and the wear looks genuine and not overdone : ] I hope ill be able to get it right!
got a friend help me with rig now got the rig/pose done and fixed some stuff also changed the back side:) wings bending is actually looks bad, but Im not sure how this can be better since the wing is not really functional.
