good use of reference, and great clean concepts, i too recommend human face and boobs. Bias i guess. Also, although i like making crazy monsters as much as anyone, port pieces are better if they have some trace of human anatomy in them.
you have kinda answered you own question in that last sentence, look at the dogs anatomy, use the muscles as a basis equally look at edge flow on human faces - some muscles are the same for both species and will act in the same way so the edge loops will be similar
can you post some more pics of just the mesh without the skin? something so we can see the overall shape? it looks like you might have anatomy issues but its hard to be specific on that render. try screenshots rather than a rendering.
Here is another update. I used other 3d models as reference this time as well as some actress pictures(Famke Jansen). I fixed some anatomy issues around the lip area. Any thoughts? I'm gonna continue uv mapping the mech now.
One thing I do if I am having problems with hands, is to just look at my hands. They are perfect reference that I can manipulate to look at any angle. Really focus on the major forms of the hand. Break down the shapes, and really study the anatomy of the hands.
I don't know anything more technical then what I can read in the UDK paper, but Lordy, that's like saying "An anatomy artist shouldn't know about muscle, bone and fat structures" and be just good through grunge work. Not fine mate, really not fine.
I think you need to focus more specifically on getting good looking hardsurface work. Currently your models are very cutout-like. As for humans, learn anatomy bit by bit. Learn to draw humans before you model them. It will help you tremendously.
Hey Squirmy you're free to put whatever you like on your portfolio, but if this piece is your showcase piece, then I'd pass you over if I were hiring. You lay out good UV's, but the character design, anatomy, color scheme are all subpar.
You really need to keep reworking the anatomy. It is really lumpy and mishapen. It is almost there. Really work over the hands a bit more as well. I would go down to a much lower subd and rework it form top to bottom and really get a nice form going.
Nice lady! .....the thigh with the round emblem on it, just above the knee is freaking me out tho, looks way different than the other one anatomy wise. Looks really good other than that, nice and curvy (how lady's should be, not scrawny like models).
