Actually, you can exceed 15 000 without problems, but if you really NEED those extra polygons is another thing...

Looks like a real simple geometry, can't you delete the polygons and keep the points (vertices) and rebuild everything poly by poly ?

I have reset Xforms and used polygon angles, but no joy. The geometry is straight on the edges actually. The high poly looks like this:

Meshlab. It`s free andcan deal with more polygons than polycruncher in my experience. Very nice software. http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/

or you could go into the low poly polygonal selection mode, select all, and hide selected>bake. works both ways

I honestly don't know how your polygon count is so high. To me, that looks like 4000 triangles tops.

That tiger head is pretty nice! You do seem to have a lot of polygons for a relatively flat surface under the eyes there, though.
