you will be told that it's to do with your setup and modo is fine. There is NO WAY that the new GTX cards are going to solve modos performance issues, they are modo issues, nothing more nothing less.
Try putting the wave file you wish to import in the UT2004/Sounds directory. I've had the same problem before and this solved it. Oh, and make sure it's a mono file, not stero.
clipping issues could most likely be solved with depthbiasedalpha but that comes at a cost. One flaw might be indoor and outdoor spaces so you would have to make a custom mesh.

Did you try to use the crease option in Zbrush before subdividing? Located in Tool>Geometry>Crease. That sounds like it may solve your problem of edges curving out.

Unfortunately I was too quick to respond and forget to remove my comment. My 'fix' doesn't solve the problem, I'm not sure why it worked for a few times before I posted that comment. Sorry for the false hope. Still looking for a solution.
