Never-to-be-seen surfaces can be omitted. Exceptions are if animation exposes parts that aren't seen in the modeled pose. Or if the character has removable parts, like removing a hat would expose the top of the head. We have a bunch of info in our wiki about game modelling.
Still, this is not an option for the vast majority of games. Sure, there are exceptions. But best not to cater a portfolio piece to that. 4k for a single asset is a deal-breaker in any game. Learn how to make real meshes, it's not that hard. I put some more info here http://wiki.polycount.com/Decal
So guys, i increased the smoothing angle in Modo, and it provides what the model looks like in game except I have taken the texture off. I adjusted the surface normal preference in modo (smoothing angle and smoothing) and its presented this: hopefully this will do xDD
Yes, that's correct. Only the tangent space map needs the extra work. You'll be able to use other maps on the low poly mesh without any further messing around (except derivative maps if you're using those, they're still linked to the tangent basis).
The tower on the right looks fine to me, except I would add a darker band at the top of the cylinder to add some contrast to the edge. Also the light at the top looks gigantic. he base struts look fine, but it's dificult to tell with sucha low res image.

A beard would be more historically accurate - clean-shaven faces were considered effete by most tribes. Of course, a tunic and trousers (or kilt) were more common than loin cloths for most (berserkers being a notable exception) - northern lands tended to be a bit chilly...
I have the same issue too. I thought I installed the scripts wrong. But I guess everyone who is using MAYA 2018 has this same issue. ShapeShifter works except for that weird artifact. Thanks in Advance to anyone who has a fix to this issue.

Your model seems to be sharp edge. Pay attention at this. In the real world, nothing is sharp edge like that (except maybe knives). Another thing : the wood line arn't really logical inbetween them, try to respect their sense :) . Hope my advices will help you :)
