From this point forward I would consider the mirror tool, the work of the devil unless you plan to flip everything you mirror at the time you mirror it (which can be scripted). I personally love symetry since it welds and mirrors without flipping. You can also go back down in the stack to Edit Poly, turn on Show End Result…
Actually I have imported the original shotgun (with hands and bones) and attached mine to them, in place of the original shotgun, then "re-skinned" it.. With the materials I have assigned the exact same material which applies to the in-game model... I mean, .../materials/models/weapons/v_models/v_shotgun.vtf or something…
Ah yeah, I understand what you mean about the backface selection stuff now, yeah that can get a bit annoying. You should try Lightwave, it's got an awesome feature where it will select verts BEHIND THE CAMERA (verts that aren't even on the screen). I say awesome feature I mean annoying as hell piece of crap However, you…
Some concept touch ups (wasn't feeling the honeycomb for now), mostly colour tweaks, as well as some blocking out. Not happy with the current look at the moment, but I'll work on it :] I think it looks bad because stylisation doesn't match, it should get better once the body gets merged down smoothed and stylised. Face…
depending on the object, I will often work symmetrical for as long as possible, and use the modifier stack to my advantage by adding a FFD modifier or an edit poly modifier to add those details. You have to be careful when going back down the stack to make geometry edits. But with some experimentation and some experience…
yeah sadly there's no perfect way to do this, but i've been having good results with a sampled tire track segment and setting "angle jitter" to be controlled by "direction" then edit the brush spacing. it's not great, but in practice it can look alright. EDIT: this may not work for your specific purpose, but for anyone…
Lets all make our avatars My Little Pony! I can't decide! http://simbada93.livejournal.com/42763.html#cutid1 http://simbada93.livejournal.com/42533.html http://simbada93.livejournal.com/42241.html [EDIT] HEY! I thought we could do animated gifs? [EDIT] Oh, 80x80 external link :)
SouthpawSid Thats a brilliant house. Its comming along very nicely ! Thanks feanix for sharing that little trick. Might come in handy some time soon :) I think you can edit your vert normals by adding a Edit Normals modifier in max. Then you can rotate which angle you want them on.
Update- welp, seems like I fixed it... All the things suggested didn't seem to work for me- until I tried breaking the normals with Edit Normal (making sure my mesh was set to Editable Mesh). I'm not 100% sure what I did, or if it's 'right', but so far everything LOOKS okay. Check it out:
looks alright, dude. any wires? also i was working on a bolter myself yesterday, from the same concept by the looks of it. funny coincidence :) edit: Willburforce: you might like this: http://ultramarinesthemovie.com/ edit: also, you might find this useful. not sure if it's accurate to what a real bolter is supposed to…
