Just make sure if you try and be different from the majority, you don't copy an innovation that proved to be successful, because apparently people hate that shit. so, no gritty hyper-realism, and now we can cross charming stylization off the list as well.
I will buy this when I get paid by wednesday and let you know how it goes...I have a ton of stylized style characters I need to paint details on...does this happen to work with max 2k9 and 2010 as well? Or is it only 2011/12?
This is awesome, dude. The proportions work as is for a cartoony look -- for mega-stylized but belivable anatomy i think the only thing that needs a tweak is the angle of the arms (shoulderpads can stay as is) -- i did a little drawover to show what i'm thinking when i see it.
Does your budget allow vertex painting? The option to transition between yellow and dark, dried out hay could be cool and offset some of the tiling. EDIT: just noticed that the whole scene has that stylized aesthetic. A more realistic style may interrupt that...
I think the upper lip is way too flat, personally. I may be wrong, but it strikes me as a stylized feature, and incredibly out of place with the otherwise smooth/realistic features. There's still some arc out even on people with really thin/flat lips.
so ultimately, yes you can be a good 3d artist without 2d skills... but why settle for good? Especially with the trend towards stylized rather than photo-real art, wouldn't you want to be able to make textures without relying on a photograph?
Looking great! I like the stylized painterly look on this a lot. One thing that sticks out is the lack of material definition. When I look at this I cant tell what its made out of. For example, the handle has the same color and look as the hammer.
Nice dude! I love the maxx- Mines based off the toy though. I dig that your going for a more stylized approach- Keep it up! *edit, also pay no mind to my wires. I had no clue about retopo tools back then.
Always enjoy seeing pieces like this man, really nice. I also like the style of it, seems a bit bulkier... more stylized which really adds some character to such a "well known" object (see these trucks in many ww2 games). nice man :)
Really nice man, I love what you're doing here. I've been noodling around with this art test myself and sculpting the stylized pieces is a great way to go. Can't wait to see this finished; Better hurry though, not long until the dealine.
