- Starting replacing blockout assets (cubes), modelled first rock, creating materials and textures before creating other assets. So the first problem is that I don't know wheter I should start creating lighting. Also I am not entirely sure how to make it interesting.
Here's a basic blockout in Max. Not quite sure if I'm settled on the layout quite yet, I think I need to move a few things around. I'll probably be doing a paint over next to concept out my ideas more before I start modeling the parts.
I'd make the handle a lot thinner. Imagine trying to wrap your hand around the thick one you've got in the blockout! I'd also suggest modelling the twisted metal trigger using a twist; seems like something which should be done early on in the modeling. Good luck!
It's really hard to get flowing shapes in 3D blockout stage. I'd suggest just small quick thumbs, where you focus on the main design lines, making sure they connect and make sense. Maybe just work on side profiles a lot, as they're really easy to do.
Great start. Concept is awesome. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Crits so far: Building seems more narrow in your blockout than concept. The front door may need to be larger than it appears in the concept to help sell that it was built by ogres, unless that little figure is an ogre.
I wrote something like this too at work, last month. Not for Lit spheres though, it projects modelplanes onto a blockout and reprojects them to another UV set while you control blending an falloff. Looks like we both had the same idea at the same time :p
I won`t get to finish him but I`ll at least try to post something for the sake of submitting my entry. Then I`ll go back and sculpt/tweak and make him badass and finish him whenever he`s done :D Color blockout for now.
@ecasie1 you are off to a flying start! I love the gesture and the proportions, feels like a very solid interpretation of the concept! I'm plaiyng pretty loose with the concept but heres my blockout so far. Its all over the place but I'll hopefully have time to fix it later.
Mid-Poly Geleberé - 3.5 hours total plus unwrap. The head is something I worked on for a bit as well. Ill post the concepts and the build in another thread. 1hr blockout This is a new piece of headgear that I came up with Called the Gelebré. I began modeling it yesterday... 1hr into it.
You seem off to a good start, only crit would be that it seems you haven't done a global blockout of your overall shapes and proportions, but jumped right into the details, that's a bit risky. Art is by the great Sam Brown by the way, http://sambrown36.blogspot.com/ always link your sources!
